mechanic who helped the bombers in England to keep flying
Dan Lee was born in Vancouver in 1920 and attended a technical high school in Toronto where he was accepted into the RCAF in 1942. His interest in aircraft engines led him to Galt for training and finally to St. Thomas where he graduated as an aero engine mechanic.
His first station was Claresholm, Alberta and started to gain various experience at Gimli, Manitoba and Dorval Airport to learn about the Liberator bombers.
By this time he was a member of the 168 Heavy Transport Squadron at Rockcliffe. From there he flew overseas to Biggin Hill in England.
He remained there until 1945 and was discharged in 1946 in Canada.
